In 1894 Thomas Hiscock Snr established a small business called T. Hiscock & Sons Painting Company. The business did local painting, glazier work and signwriting. For 13 years he ran the business servicing local requirements and gaining customers. Then in 1907, Tom Hiscock the son of Thomas Hiscock took over the business and continued to run it for 40 years.
Tom died suddenly and his son Thomas Jnr took over the business managing over 30 employees and carrying out painting work all over the Wide-Bay and Burnett region. In 1951, Thomas Jnr sold the business and started up two pharmacists in Bundaberg. But after only 13 years, he sold up and went back into painting and contracting.
In 1965 Brian, Thomas Jnr's son joined the business and the following year took over management following his father's death. The business continued to grow for the next 18 years.
Brian’s son Nelson joined the business in 1984 and worked alongside his father, always looking for new and innovative ways to do things. An industrial building was built in 1994 and became the head office and warehouse of the family business for the next 12 years. Four years after moving into the new building, the new name of the business emerges. Cotewell Industries, the name that has stuck for the last 21 years, even though the ‘Industries’ was dropped in 2005.
At this point in the history of the business, it is run by 4th and 5th generation family members, but it didn’t stop there. Nelson’s sons joined the business in 2011.
