How Do I Correctly Remove Line Marking Tape?
Our line marking tape is made to bond tightly to the floor. Add in forklifts, temperature changes, and heavy traffic, and suddenly that “simple” removal job can turn into sticky residue, torn tape, or even damaged flooring.
If you’ve never removed line marking tape before, you’re not alone so we’ve done a step-by-step guide explaining the process in order to pull it up correctly.

Step 1: Clear the Area
Before you start, make sure the area is clean and free from dust, pallets, or equipment. You’ll need room to move safely and to work in sections. If your tape is near traffic zones, cordon off the area so no one accidentally walks through mid-removal.
Step 2: Loosen the Edge
Start at one corner or edge of the tape, use a scraper to gently lift it. The key word here is gently – you don’t want to gouge the floor, especially if it’s epoxy or polished concrete.
Step 3: Peel Slowly and Steadily
Once you’ve got a good grip, peel the tape back at a low angle – not straight up. This helps release the adhesive more cleanly and reduces the risk of tearing.
Step 4: Remove Adhesive Residue
After the tape is up, you’ll probably notice some sticky patches left behind that can’t be removed with a scraper. To remove these, use a solvent and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping.
Step 5: Clean the Surface
Once all residue is gone, wipe the area down with a floor cleaner and let it dry completely. This not only makes it look neat, but it also prepares the surface if you’re planning to re-mark the area with new tape or paint.
Bonus Tip: Prep for New Line Marking
If you’re replacing the old tape, now’s the perfect time to review your layout. Are the markings still in the best spots? Does your workflow need adjusting? Taking a few minutes to reassess can save you rework later.
